“It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be.”

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the [read more...]

I have ridiculous Fashion Week insomnia tonight.

I can barely breathe due to nerves.  ARGHGHHGHGH.  See, I love fashion week – I do.  Despite all of my complaining, I love it.  But this is what drives me insane – the nerves, the worrying, the planning (If BLANK happens, then I’ll do BLANK.  If BLANK happens, then I’ll do BLANK.  If this BLANK and that BLANK happens and I can’t get that celeb interview, then I’ll pretend I speak only Russian and talk to the models instead.  What question should I ask this designer?  How should I cover that one?  I can’t ask any more about the recession, or [read more...]

zooeydeschanel:

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey’s one of those girls who has effectively tricked other girls into thinking she’s not as gorgeous as she really is – the thick bangs, the quirky looks, her name is Zooey.  It’s impressive and effective.  It’s impressively effective.

Women think to themselves, “Aw, I like her!  She could be my friend!  Just look at those bangs!  Look at her quirky looks!  Look at her name, which is Zooey! She could never steal my man like that horrible Scarlett ‘Homewrecker’ Johansson!  Zoeey’s cool!  She’s quirky! Men never go for quirky girls except [read more...]

I’m going to be totally honest: I have never, in my life, been as happy as I am right now, and it has absolutely nothing to do with finances (I have no money) or men (I’m dating a lot of people very, very casually, but no one’s even made it to a third date yet) or best friends (Meghan, Mary & I have been going through some tough times in our relationship) or even family (my mother and I didn’t speak for the entire month of January.  I’ll tell you that story some other time …).

I [read more...]

I am proud to say – and Caroline, Rachel, Elly & Molly can back me up on this – I made the entire theatre laugh at least three times with my ecstatic reactions throughout the movie.

What can I say?  I’m just a demonstrative human being.  Can’t. Hold. All. The. Love. Inside.

Turning the other cheek

As a young girl I was taken to church every Sunday, but at the age of 11, after much thought and extensive “Are you there God, it’s me, Julia. God? GOD? SERIOUSLY ARE YOU THERE?!?!” diary ruminations, I determined definitively there was no God, and the whole religion thing was bullshit. My father declared it “a stage,” but I remained an insistent, sometimes belligerent atheist for the next 15 years.

I used to make that the punchline to my jokes about my religious beliefs – or lack thereof – as if, “HA! How could something I feel so deeply and [read more...]

Read my column on BAD TEXT over HERE at Time Out New York.com

Here’s a tease to get you going …

Time Out New York: Sex & Dating
Bad Textiquette by Julia Allison
Issue 694: January 15-21, 2009

“sexxx tonight? yes ot no?”

That would be an ACTUAL TEXT received by marketing account manager Alexa, 28.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, she went with the latter option.

So many texts, so little texiquette – something I discovered recently, when a man who was attempting – badly – to woo me, sent me the following SMS:

“Would luv 2 but meet n friends 4 [read more...]

Please keep in mind

I’ll tell you, one of the hardest things about what we’re doing here at NonSociety is balancing the back end work (design, web development, production meetings, editing, ad sales, biz dev) with the front end content, which you read here.

Ideally, we could just work on our lifecasts – but we’re a small business, and when we don’t publish, it isn’t that we’re not doing anything – it’s that we’re doing what it takes to keep this site running.

So if I post a lot of photos, many times it’s because I find it a hell of a lot easier [read more...]

Check out today’s episode of TMIweekly, wherein Mary discusses cute exercise clothes to inspire us all to work out.

I actually brought my gym gear to Vegas!!  I’m looking forward to being motivated by the girls – last time we were here, at the Hard Rock for Randi’s bachelorette, Mary gave me a personal training session which almost killed me.  It was awesome.

Here’s the thing about me & the gym: we have a love/hate relationship. The two biggest issues? 1) I get bored really, really easily, and 2) I find it hard to get [read more...]
