I’m teaching a Learning Annex seminar on Personal Branding TONIGHT at 6:45 pm

Although it’s entitled “How to be an Internet Celebrity,” I don’t really think that’s an accurate summary of the course material, mainly because I don’t believe there to be much value in becoming an “Internet Celebrity,” whatever the hell that even means.

I do, however, find significant value in personal branding, and if I’ve learned anything from my myriad missteps in this realm, it’s that this happens to be one of those rare instances, like being an airline pilot or a solider in Iraq, in which one should try very, very hard not to make mistakes in the first place, as they are particularly susceptible to … uh … irreversibility.

Now, that’s not to say you can’t “reinvent” yourself.  People do all the time.  (Arianna Huffington, anyone?)  But it’s much easier to just get it right (or at least rightish) the first time around.

Anyway.  Despite the aforementioned blunders, which I feel like harping on because I’d sort of like to make peace and move on from them, I have managed to – somehow – make my living for the past three years off of the personal brand I’ve established.  And lord knows if I can do it, so can you.

I hope I’ll see you there.  It’s tonight, Tuesday, April 6, at Tudor Hotel New York, 304 East 42nd Street New York, NY 10017 from 06:45PM – 09:45 PM (Oh yes, THREE HOURS o’ fun.  I promise I’ll bring cupcakes.)

PS. I did NOT write The Learning Annex’s class blurb, which has to be hands down one of the worst sales pitches I’ve ever seen.  Not to mention … it’s sort of ungrammatical slash unreadable.  PLUS, I have NO idea why they wrote, “As Julia says” followed by a truly inane quote … because I DIDN’T SAY THAT!!  And double PS?  I’ve never used the phrase “secret sauce” in my LIFE.  Dear god.  SECRET SAUCE??  What the eff??  Ugh.
